The opening track this week comes from an LP release that never happened. In 1969, Sinatra & Jobim recorded several more tracks which were to be part of a follow up to their successful debut album together. However, it was only briefly released on 8-track tape in 1970 before being taken out of print at Sinatra's behest, due to concerns over its sales potential. Several of the Sinatra-Jobim tracks were subsequently incorporated in the Sinatra & Company album (1971).
Todd, this appears to show a vinyl album sleeve - I can find no reference to a vinyl release anywhere. Also, the track order is different to both the original acetate and the 8-track.
ReplyDeleteAny theories/explanations you have will be much appreciated!
Thanks for your comment. You are absolutely correct and, as I mentioned in the copy, it was a LP release that never happened. I just wanted to include the proposed artwork which did appear, briefly, on the 8-track.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Todd - but the back cover looks nothing like the back label of the 8-track cartridge (which you can see at discogs) - and it shows sides one and two, not the four programs of the 8-track. And the track order differs from the 8-track (and the original acetate). It looks like a vinyl album sleeve! Could you tell us where you found the image?
DeleteI'm not sure where I found the reverse artwork apart from online; I assumed it was done by the same art/graphic designer responsible for the cover image, but of course it could have been done by an enthusiast who's much better with photoshop that I would be!
