LP Artwork: Carmen McRae/I'm Coming Home Again

One of the strangest album covers in my collection belongs to the 1978 release from Carmen McRae. Originally on the Buddha label, it seems to represent a New York tenement window with a fire burning behind. I presume that this was to suggest a warm glow; instead it looks as though the apartment is on fire!

It has been re-released on other labels but with unimaginative, albeit less surreal, artwork. The best is the (third from the bottom) Trio Records repackaging.

One wonders if sales might have been better with  a cover design that was more inviting...
