LP Artwork: Tell Her You Love Her / Frank Sinatra

The title track of this album was originally issued as the B-side of Frank Sinatra's hit single, Witchcraft - both with great Nelson Riddle arrangements.

This compilation album bearing its name came along in July 1963, and was one of a plethora of Sinatra albums that Capitol issued to try to scupper the launch of Sinatra's own label, Reprise, which he founded in 1960.

The tracks were culled from three of his concept albums (In the Wee Small Hours, A Swingin' Affair and Songs for Swingin' Lovers!) plus a couple of single releases, the other being Weep They Will which originally was the B-side of (Love Is) The Tender Trap.

LP Artwork: A Touch of Tobasco / Rosemary Clooney & Perez Prado

A Touch of Tabasco was Rosemary Clooney's second album for RCA Victor and, on its release in 1959, was promoted with bottles of Tabasco sauce! What's more, the liner notes where written by the singer's husband, José Ferrer.

It followed hot on the heels of one of my all-time favourite albums that Clooney recorded with her close friend, Bing Crosby, entitled Fancy Meeting You Here.

Sadly, it was the only pairing of Ms Clooney - George's aunt - with the famous Cuban bandleader.

LP Artwork: Turn Me Loose! / Frank Rosolino

A rare vocal outing for trombonist, Frank Rosolino. Turn Me Loose! was released on Frank Sinatra's fledgling label (Reprise Records) in 1962.

The song featured in this week's program is You're a Sweetheart written by Jimmy McHugh and Harold Adamson as the title song for the Alice Faye movie in 1937. The other titles they wrote for the film didn't exactly become household hits: Broadway Jamboree, My Fine Feathered Friend, Who Killed Maggie? and Oh, Oh, Oklahoma...

EP Artwork: Judy Garland Sings Lionel Bart's Maggie May

In August 1964 at a time when The Beatles were changing the course of popular music, Judy Garland entered the famous Abbey Road Studios in London to record a quartet of songs written by Lionel Bart. The numbers were included in the show Maggie May and as Garland was an admirer of Bart's work, she agreed to do the session.

This week's program includes the quirky number, There's Only One Union. There's a certain poignancy about this EP as it contains the last studio recordings Garland ever made (other than a few pre-records for her TV appearances).
