LP Artwork: Golden Hits / Dusty Springfield

One of the most soulful British voices of all time was Dusty Springfield. And this week's "wishing" theme enabled us to include the singer's popular version of Wishin' and Hopin' which she recorded in January, 1964.

It appeared on the album, Golden Hits, and released internationally on the Philips label as a single.

First recorded by Dionne Warwick, as the b-side of her single This Empty Place in the spring of 1963; the track was also featured on Warwick's debut album, Presenting Dionne Warwick. Co-composer Burt Bacharach recalled, "I [think] I tried to talk her into releasing Wishin' and Hopin' [as a single] because she had some ambivalence about it."

Thankfully, his persuasive powers won the day and it went on to be a top 10 hit for Dusty on both sides of the Atlantic.
